The project, which was funded by DEECD, was completed in April 2006, after which the Youth Options Guarantee was officially launched in Ballarat by the Minister for Education, Lynne Kosky in July 2006. An Interim Report outlines the Youth Options Guarantee's aims, objectives and outcomes and provides a summary of the progress made in Grampians Education Partnership Youth Options Guarantee Project for the period, 12 July to 21 December 2005 against the first two milestones of the project. The first milestone focused on background research, which included a literature review, findings from the European Study Tour and stakeholder consultations. The second milestone related to the development of the referral model proposed to underpin the Youth Options Guarantee. Schools in the Grampians Region are encouraged to use this tool to assist in the work of School Transition Teams in identifying, at the earliest stage, students who are at risk of early leaving, and then to monitor the effectiveness of any interventions put in place to support these students. What is the Student Mapping Tool? The Student Mapping Tool takes school student data from the CASES21 database and displays it in a pre-formatted Excel spreadsheet. The Tool extracts CASES21 information that is relevant to each student's risk of early school leaving, such as attendance, achievement and welfare factors. The Tool provides schools with a mechanism for recording the range of interventions they put in place to support students, identified as being at risk of early leaving, and for monitoring over time, the effectiveness of these interventions. The information collated by the Tool can be used by which schools to underpin discussions about students who may be at risk of early leaving. Download the Student Mapping Tool from the DEECD website.
